What do you think about the 2012 end of world or new age?

I think its just a load of crap
I’ve heard this and I think it’s a load of shit! I mean what about the hydron colider people said that was going to make a black hole and it would suck us all in! That didn’t happen! Most people just think it’s a big rumour!
Your instincts do you credit, young Jedi.

The Mayans were a lot smarter than a lot of people give them credit for.
Their Calendar system had more parts to it than many (many-many-many) will admit to. Just for starts … the Baktun (the fifth part in the long count) has 20 parts to it. Then you add one (1) to the next higher part – the Pictun.
If the Batun goes from 12 back to zero (0), the Pactun would be uses less. Then the Mayan would not have put it in their Calendar.
Kin 1 day
Uinal 20 kin
Tun 18 uinal
Katun 20 tun
Baktun 20 katun – Why do so many think it stops at 13 here?
(End of the charaters in the Long Count)
Pictun 20 baktun
Calabtun 20 piktun
Kinchiltun 20 calabtun
Alautun 20 kinchiltun
As for links … I like the first more. It doesn’t reset the Bactun back to zero (0) after Dec 21, 2012.

i’m sure you googled about 2012. if you checked additional links to this subject you will be surprised at what you find. something is going on and those who are in the loop is working very hard to keep it from going public. as it stands "things" will be comming up later this year and then see what happens when the public and the world will see changes and demand answers

Of course nothing will happen. As 21st December 2012 approaches and there’s no sign of any mystery planet, pole shift starting, etc. many of the doom & destruction predictions will be modified into ‘new age’ or ‘new beginning’ or some other claptrap which the cranks will hope is less easy to disprove. A year afterwards, it will all be forgotten and the cranks will have invented a new doomsday date.
Note to ginzo1d:
Please provide a list of these exciting events expected later this year so I may include them in my occasional Hoaxwatch column, which highlights crackpot predictions which haven’t the slightest chance of ever taking place.

this 2012 thing is like predicting personalities using blood types.
so inane it’s making my eyes cross involuntarily.

There is absolutely no scientific evidence that anything unusual will happen in 2012. First of all, the Maya didn’t predict the end of the world. Their calendar simply reaches the end of a cycle, and they had specific names for much longer periods of time, up to 62 million years. If they thought the world was going to end after a cycle of less than 6000 years, why would they bother? Their calendar was highly accurate, as was their knowledge of the apparent motions of the sun and moon (which is how eclipses are predicted–no fancy telescopes needed), but they did *not* possess any "lost" astronomical knowledge.
As for Nostradamus, he didn’t give any specific dates for anything (he was too smart to make that mistake in his "predictions", which the 2012 doomsayers aren’t). The Bible doesn’t make any date-specific predictions, either, and in fact it specifically states that the end of the world *cannot* be foretold.
Now, let’s look at some of the "predictions" themselves…
The earth’s poles are not going to shift. The geographic poles can’t shift (the earth can’t flip over or reverse its rotation). The magnetic poles can and do shift, but this takes thousands of years, and the earth’s magnetic field never disappears completely.
The earth is not going to get hit by a giant planet (if it were, we would have seen it by now, and its gravity would be affecting the orbits of everything else in the solar system).
The sun will not line up with the center of the Milky Way (it can’t; the center of the galaxy is in the wrong part of the sky). There is no such thing as a "cosmic winter solstice."
The planets are not going to align (it’s physically impossible; and even if they could, their combined gravity wouldn’t be enough to disrupt anything on earth).
The sun will not flare up and poison the earth (it goes through regular 11-year cycles of solar flare activity, and 2012 is just another peak).
Destructive earthquakes happen all the time, and they can’t be predicted for a specific date (or even a specific year).
Nuclear wars have been predicted since nuclear weapons were invented. We haven’t blown ourselves up yet, and there’s nothing special about 2012 that would make things any different.
Do you remember the Y2K doomsday predictions? The 2012 doomsday predictions are just as accurate. The people behind the 2012 hysteria are in it for the money. They sell lots of books and videos to people who don’t know any better. A lot of them were saying the same thing about 2003, and when the earth survived they picked 2012 because of the supposed significance of the Mayan calendar. When 2012 comes and goes and we’re all still here, they’ll just pick another date and sell more books and videos.
